A one-story garage built between 1926 and 1937 is also on the property.","why_significant":"The house is significant under Criterion C as an intact, representative example of Italianate residential architecture in Moravia, tied to the village's post-Civil War prosperity. It retains integrity of form, materials and detailing inside and out. It keeps more of its period character than many other frame Italianate houses in the village.","narrative":"Built around 1877 at 12 East Cayuga Street, this two-story frame house in Moravia, New York, is a well-preserved example of Italianate residential design. It sits a short distance east of the Main Street business district on a street lined with nineteenth-century homes. The plan is essentially a rectangle with a notch removed from the northwest corner, so the western two bays of the five-bay facade are recessed. Paired brackets decorate the wide eaves of the hipped roof, and the two-over-two-light windows carry heavy hood moldings. The front porch has square posts with semicircular arches and jigsaw-cut ornament, and the house rests on a cut stone foundation. Inside, the historic floor plan and finishes survive. Henry Allen, a lumber dealer, had the house built and sold it in 1882. It was listed for its architectural value, since it keeps more period integrity than many other frame Italianate houses in the village and reflects Moravia's prosperity after the Civil War.","period_of_significance":"1877","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian: Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the interior retains its historic floor plan and finishes.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.488707-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/95000060.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000060/d1bb835a3b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000060/d1bb835a3b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Lvklock","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FL_2010_753.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Lvklock</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FL_2010_753.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312184","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Allen_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5717249"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/cayuga-county/allen-henry-house-95000060/"}
