It is a three-bay, one-and-one-half story dwelling with weatherboard siding, a standing-seam metal roof, a stone foundation and two coursed-rubble stone end chimneys. The east room is believed to be the original part, built as a one-story house with a central chimney. The central passage, west chamber and upper half-story were probably added between about 1820 and 1850, and a porch was added in the early twentieth century. The land was once part of a tract owned by Robert Burwell, George Washington and Fielding Lewis. Lieutenant Colonel Richard Kidder Meade, an aide to Washington during the Revolution, bought the property in 1783, and his family lived in the log house while the larger Lucky Hit was built. The house is recognized for its architecture and its early log construction.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1784","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Colonial","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling, with a secondary structure on the property.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:59.667996-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/90/6801/41680190/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_VA/95000022.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000022/c053859e78-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000022/c053859e78-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ.
