It shows a small vernacular log house growing into a formal central-passage house with Greek Revival details. Its outbuildings, old roadbed and rural setting add to its integrity. It is locally significant under Criterion C.","narrative":"Sunrise is a two-story farmhouse on an unpaved section of Route 707 near Gore, about fifteen miles west of Winchester. Its oldest part is a log building probably erected in 1818 for Robert Muse, whose family kept the farm until 1963. A second log wing and a central hall were added around 1850, unified by weatherboard siding and a two-level front porch with Greek Revival door surrounds. A frame rear wing replaced a lean-to kitchen in 1914. The 26-acre nominated area also holds a meathouse, two barns from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and a stretch of the old Winchester-Romney road that predates the North Western Turnpike. The house kept its original pine floors, mantels and woodwork. It was listed as locally significant for architecture, as a rare intact example of a small log house expanded into a more formal dwelling, with a period of significance from 1818 to 1914.","period_of_significance":"1818-1914","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-Nineteenth Century: Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently still used as a single dwelling, with agricultural outbuildings and road also in current use; the outbuildings are described as in very good or stable condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:01.104305-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/94/6807/41680794/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_VA/95000021.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000021/9c91bbffdf-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/95000021/9c91bbffdf-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"AgnosticPreachersKid","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sunrise_(Gore,_Virginia)_1.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">AgnosticPreachersKid</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sunrise_(Gore,_Virginia)_1.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/41680794","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunrise_(Gore,_Virginia)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14713275"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/virginia/frederick-county/sunrise-95000021/"}
