It also served as the center of farming activity from the early 19th through the early 20th centuries, shown by two barns and cotton terracing.","narrative":"Built in 1814 by William Daniell, this two-story wood-framed farmhouse sits in a ten-acre clearing on a 95-acre parcel northwest of Watkinsville. It follows the Plantation Plain type, one of Georgia's earliest house forms, with a one-room-deep profile, side-gabled roof, brick end chimneys, and a rear one-story shed. Hand-hewn timbers, mortise-and-tenon joints, hand-planed wall and ceiling boards, wainscoting, two enclosed stairways, and three original mantels survive. A 1949 rehabilitation lengthened the front windows, added a pedimented door surround, removed the front porch, and added rear rooms and a bathroom. Daniell bought the land in 1801, and it stayed in his family until 1851. Later owners, including cotton-industry interests and the Park family, kept it in farming into the twentieth century. Two barns from around 1930 and traces of cotton terracing reflect that agricultural use. The house is significant for its architecture and for its agricultural history.","period_of_significance":"1814-1944","architect_builder":"William Daniell (builder and owner)","architectural_style":"Plantation Plain; Colonial Revival (nonhistoric)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling, with the outbuildings used for equipment storage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.017105-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/94001638.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/94001638/ebd2d2240a-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/94001638/ebd2d2240a-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Cathy Allison","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Daniell_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Cathy Allison</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Daniell_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93209194","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134440590"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/oconee-county/daniell-william-house-94001638/"}
