It retains its meeting house plan, symmetry, Doric piers and pilasters, paneled gallery and grained beaded board finishes. It also reflects the development of Gansevoort and the Gansevoort family's long involvement with the town.","narrative":"Built between 1840 and 1841, this brick church on Catherine Street in Gansevoort, Saratoga County, is a small Greek Revival meeting house on a cut stone foundation. It has a rectangular plan, a slate-covered gable roof, a wooden belfry, and wide, flat stone lintels and sills. Inside, the sanctuary keeps its original pews with mahogany caps, a paneled gallery on Doric piers, a recessed chancel and grained beaded board siding. The congregation was accepted into the Reformed Church in America in 1839, and land and donations came from members of the Gansevoort family, who developed the village. In 1898 and 1899 Catherine Gansevoort Lansing funded refurbishing, including colored and etched glass, stencilled walls and a slate roof, along with a new manse that still stands. No architect or builder is known. The church served the village until the mid-1950s. It is now vacant and badly deteriorated, yet it remains largely intact in design and materials.","period_of_significance":"1840-1898","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century / Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Listed current function is vacant/not in use. The church is substantially deteriorated, with holes in the roof, a weakened leaning belfry and a collapsed gallery, ceilings and part of the floor.
