The oldest stone section dates to about 1750, with later additions around 1790 and 1860.","why_significant":"The house is significant under Criterion C in the area of architecture as an example of mid-eighteenth and mid-nineteenth century local building craft. It has a largely intact mid-eighteenth century stone core, a late eighteenth century stone addition and a ca. 1860 enlargement. Together these show how a common regional stone house type evolved over time.","narrative":"This rural property on Springtown Road in Rosendale, Ulster County, holds a house that grew in stages over roughly a century. The oldest part, built about 1750, was a three-by-two bay, one-and-one-half story stone dwelling of rubblestone. Around 1790 a stone bay was added to the south end. About 1860 the former garret was raised to a full story in clapboarded frame construction, two-over-two sash replaced the earlier multiple-light windows, and a full-width porch was added to the east facade. Inside, the southernmost portion preserves remnants of a separate basement, massive timber framing, a jambless fireplace, a narrow garret stair and plank flooring 24 to 30 inches wide. The 4.85-acre parcel also contains a ca. 1890 frame garage and a ca. 1930 metal windmill that is non-contributing. The house was listed because it shows, in well-preserved fabric from each building campaign, how the region's early Dutch-tradition stone houses were enlarged through the nineteenth century.","period_of_significance":"ca.1750, ca.1860, ca.1890","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"OTHER/vernacular","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Historic and current use is single dwelling; the property also includes a ca. 1890 garage and a non-contributing ca. 1930 metal windmill.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.252524-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/94001374.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/94001374/c2788df105-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/94001374/c2788df105-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Larry Arvidson","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DuBois-Deyo_House.png\" rel=\"noopener\">Larry Arvidson</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DuBois-Deyo_House.png"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75322600","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuBois-Deyo_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5309978"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/ulster-county/dubois-deyo-house-94001374/"}
