It blends simplified late Craftsman and Colonial Revival detailing and meets the registration requirements and integrity standards set for the property type in the multiple property listing for Pasadena's bungalow courts.","narrative":"Five small one-story bungalows arranged in a U-shaped plan make up this court on North Raymond Avenue in Pasadena. Built in 1924-25, it has gabled roofs, clapboard siding, wood double-hung windows and raised concrete foundations. Two parallel walkways lead back to the rear unit. The front units and the rear unit have offset entry porticos with paired wood posts, while the center units have small shed-roof canopies. The design mixes simplified Colonial Revival features, seen in the classical porticos, with Craftsman details such as exposed rafters and wide eave overhangs. Karl Valentine served as owner, architect and contractor, and he also built a similar court on North Mar Vista Avenue in 1927. The court was one of many built along this stretch of Raymond Avenue after the city adopted its first zoning laws permitting such housing. It is recognized for architecture as one of Pasadena's best examples of the enclosed bungalow court form, and it remains in residential use.","period_of_significance":"1924-1925","architect_builder":"Valentine, Karl (Architect/Builder)","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in multiple-dwelling use. The rear garage is non-contributing because of alterations and deterioration, and a second garage has been removed.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:27.700981-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_CA/94001315.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/94001315/b8dfd57a93-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/94001315/b8dfd57a93-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"TheCatalyst31","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Court_at_1274-1282_North_Raymond_Avenue_2014.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">TheCatalyst31</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Court_at_1274-1282_North_Raymond_Avenue_2014.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/123857434","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Court_at_1274%E2%80%931282_North_Raymond_Avenue","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16890734"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/california/los-angeles-county/court-at-1274-1282-north-raymond-avenue-94001315/"}
