The farm also retains a notable group of nineteenth-century outbuildings, including a stone slaves' quarters and granary built for Thomas Glasscock, and a 1915 Colonial Revival wing joining the older parts.","narrative":"Rose Hill Farm lies along the Ashby's Gap Turnpike (U.S. Route 50) between Middleburg and Upperville in southern Loudoun County. The nominated 72 acres hold a main house built in three stages. Its core is a two-and-one-half-story, five-bay brick Federal house of about 1820, built for Amos Denham, with Flemish-bond brickwork, a mouse-tooth cornice and paired end chimneys. Inside are eight hand-carved mantels, each of a different design, two built-in cupboards and an elliptical arch dividing the stair hall. Thomas Glasscock bought the farm in 1853, added the two-story cast-iron porch and built a nine-room stone slaves' quarters in the late 1850s. A brick wing of 1915 joined the two buildings. Surviving outbuildings include a brick smokehouse or dairy, a log meat house, an octagonal icehouse, a three-story stone granary, a stone bridge, a stone wall and the Denham family cemetery. The house also served as a tavern on the turnpike.","period_of_significance":"1820-1915","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic: Federal; Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals: Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a single dwelling with secondary structures; condition of resources ranges from fair to excellent.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:52:01.024654-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/69/6816/41681669/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_VA/94000986.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/94000986/8ac557d1b3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/94000986/8ac557d1b3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD","credit_html":"Jerrye & Roy Klotz, MD, CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ROSE_HILL_FARM,_LOUDOUN_COUNTY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/41681669","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Hill_Farm_(Upperville,_Virginia)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14713155"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/virginia/loudoun-county/rose-hill-farm-94000986/"}
