Its restrained Greek Revival design, with a trabeated entrance, tall friezes, pilasters and evenly spaced tall windows, reflects a builder's adaptation of the national style. It retains a high degree of exterior and interior integrity.","narrative":"Yatesville Methodist Church is a small wood frame church at the crossroads of Yatesville and Old County Roads in the Yates County hamlet of Yatesville, surrounded by open fields and scattered farm buildings. Construction began in 1837, five years after the local Methodist Episcopal society formed. The building is two stories tall, three bays wide and three deep, with clapboard siding, paneled corner pilasters, a wide frieze, a trabeated entrance with double five-panel doors and a two-stage belfry. A wing was added to the rear around 1907 for meeting rooms and a kitchen. Inside, the entry vestibule, beaded plank wainscoting, pews with carved end panels and an altar rail remain. Late nineteenth-century stained glass replaced the original sash windows. The church was listed for its architecture, as an unusually well-preserved example of a Greek Revival meeting house, one of the county's earliest surviving churches and a local landmark of early settlement.","period_of_significance":"1837 - 1907 (amended to \"1837; 1907\", corresponding to the initial construction and the 1907 addition)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century/Greek Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a religious property; the original church survives largely intact, and the balcony has been closed off from the public.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.157831-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/94000971.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315597","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yatesville_Methodist_Church","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q8050225"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/yates-county/yatesville-methodist-church-94000971/"}
