The barn, built in 1875, is one of the last surviving fruit storage buildings in Yates County and an outstanding example of that type. Together they are rare surviving examples of two distinctive property types in the county.","narrative":"Along County Route 54A in Jerusalem, about 3 miles south of Penn Yan, a farm property combines a 1921 Bungalow with an 1875 fruit barn. The house replaced an earlier dwelling that burned in 1920. It is a one-and-one-half-story wood frame building with a gable roof extended over a full-width porch, battered porch posts on square plinths, a shed dormer and three-over-one windows. Modern siding now covers the original sheathing, but the interior plan, plaster walls, wood moldings and paneled doors survive. North of the house stands the grape and apple storage barn, built with coursed rubblestone walls on the basement and first levels, a gambrel roof and board-and-batten gables. Its thick masonry walls were meant to keep fruit cool, and it has many windows and doors on three levels. The barn is described as one of the county's last surviving fruit storage buildings, and the house as a representative Bungalow. A modern garage between them does not contribute to the property's significance.","period_of_significance":"ca.1875, 1921","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th and Early 20th Century American Movements/Bungalow","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Both the house and barn are listed as still in use, with current functions of single dwelling and agricultural building.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.566725-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/94000966.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315533","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherman_Williams_House_and_Fruit_Barn","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7495274"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/yates-county/williams-sherman-house-and-fruit-barn-94000966/"}
