It retains its form, floor plan and many interior features, and is described as an important local landmark recalling the early nineteenth-century settlement of the area.","narrative":"Built around 1812 on Crystal Springs Road (NYS Route 230) in Barrington, this two-story brick house is a rectangular, five-by-two-bay Federal style residence with a center entrance. It sits on a stone foundation under an asphalt-shingle gable roof. Parapets rise above the gable end walls, with chimneys built into them and a lead-traced lunette in each gable. Windows are double-hung six-over-six sash. The north facade is dominated by an Adamesque entrance with slender columns, sidelights, an elliptical transom with lead tracery and a keyed limestone arch. A portico and the present door date to about 1920, and a wood-frame wing was added around 1840. Inside, plaster walls, wood moldings, mantels, a stair with turned newels and balusters, and paneled doors survive. The house was listed because it represents late Federal residential architecture in Yates County, with its form and floor plan largely intact. It remains a single-family home on about 7.4 acres.","period_of_significance":"ca.1812","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic/Federal","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Historic and current use is single dwelling; the interior is described as highly intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:51.05357-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/94000953.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315521","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spicer-Millard_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7576932"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/yates-county/spicer-millard-house-94000953/"}
