It also illustrates the growth of the county's agricultural economy, since the house, outbuildings and farmland setting remain largely intact.","narrative":"Set on a slight rise beside the Lakemont-Himrod Road in Starkey, this farmstead centers on a one and one-half story frame farmhouse built about 1840. Its gabled-ell form, clapboard walls, broad eaves, tall first-floor windows with multiple-light sash and five-column porch reflect the Greek Revival style, with some Gothic Revival touches. A rear wing was added later. Inside, the plan of two formal rooms and a common room survives, along with plaster walls, wood moldings and paneled doors. Behind the house stand a heavy-timber stock barn and a shed, both from about 1880, and a stone smokehouse from about 1850, all on roughly 33 acres of the historic farm. The property was recognized for architecture as one of the county's best examples of the gabled-ell house type, and for agriculture as a rare, largely intact mid-nineteenth century farmstead that shows how farming and farm buildings changed in Yates County. It remains a local landmark.","period_of_significance":"ca.1840 - ca.1880","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century/Greek Revival, with Gothic Revival features","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the house and three outbuildings (barn, shed, smokehouse) survive as contributing buildings.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.652326-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/94000947.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315607","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Noyes_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6250703"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/yates-county/noyes-john-house-94000947/"}
