The surviving corn crib, small barn and fruit packing shed, plus part of the historic acreage, make it a rare intact mid-to-late nineteenth-century farmstead. It is also described as an important local landmark.","narrative":"Built around 1850, this farmhouse sits on the west side of Water Street, also called the Dundee-Himrod Road, in the town of Starkey, Yates County, New York. The two-story frame house has a cubic form, a stone foundation, a low hipped roof and overhanging eaves with paired scroll-sawn brackets. Ornate porches with slender grouped posts, molded capitals and carved tracery run across the front and along the side wing. Windows have six-over-six sash and decorative lintels. Inside, the original plan survives, with formal rooms in the main block, common rooms in the wings, plaster walls, mantels, moldings and paneled doors. Three mid-nineteenth-century outbuildings remain on the 7.8-acre parcel: a corn crib, a small barn and a fruit packing shed. The property was listed for its architecture, as an outstanding regional example of the Italianate style and a rare surviving mid-to-late nineteenth-century farmstead in Yates County. It is still used as a single-family home.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1850 - ca. 1870","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the house retains its original plan and much historic interior fabric, and three mid-nineteenth-century outbuildings survive.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.60241-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/94000936.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315540","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uriah_Hair_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7900547"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/yates-county/hair-uriah-house-94000936/"}
