Federal features include its rectangular massing, symmetrical windows and denticulated cornices, while the broad eaves and monumental entrance are Greek Revival. Its intact form and floor plan make it a local landmark recalling early nineteenth-century settlement.","narrative":"Built around 1825 on Bath Road in the town of Milo, Yates County, this two-story frame house shows the shift from Federal to Greek Revival design. It is five bays wide and two deep, clad in clapboard, and rests on a stone foundation under a gabled roof. Six-over-six windows carry finely crafted denticulated cornices. The east entrance is the main feature: an eight-panel door with sidelights, reeded molding and corner blocks, framed by plain pilasters and a denticulated entablature. A one-story rear wing was added in the later nineteenth century. Inside, a central hall flanked by one room on each side survives, along with plaster walls, wood moldings and paneled doors. Jonathan Bailey, an early settler who bought the land in 1812 and first built a cabin, constructed the house in the mid-1820s. It was listed as a well-preserved local example of transitional early nineteenth-century architecture and a reminder of the area's early settlement. It remains a single-family residence.","period_of_significance":"1825","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Early Republic/Federal (late-Federal/Greek Revival)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the interior is described as highly intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.092204-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/94000926.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315517","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Bailey_House_(Milo,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6272492"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/yates-county/bailey-jonathan-house-94000926/"}
