It shows the transition from Queen Anne style to bungalow forms. It has been preserved in essentially its original form.","narrative":"Built in 1905 at 3704 Garrott Avenue in Houston's Westmoreland Addition, this two-story wood-frame house combines Queen Anne features with early bungalow detailing. Builder H.N. Jones constructed it for James V. Meek, a Houston attorney and later judge, whose family lived there for 49 years. An octagonal corner tower, a full-width wraparound porch, double front doors with leaded beveled glass, and a gabled dormer with a tripartite window mark the exterior. Tapered porch columns on brick piers, plain detailing, and eave brackets resembling rafter tails point toward the bungalow style. The interior keeps its original room layout, hardwood floors with inlay, and a staircase with large newel posts. Changes are limited mainly to enclosing two sleeping porches, plus a guest house, garage, and pool that do not count as historic. The house was listed for its architecture as a well-preserved local example of early 20th century residential design.","period_of_significance":"1905","architect_builder":"Jones, H.N.
