It pairs a brick Gothic Revival house, with Late Victorian additions, with a nearly complete set of 1890s and 1900s farm buildings. Few farmsteads in the area have Gothic Revival farmhouses of this quality.","narrative":"This farmstead lies on rolling land northeast of Fiatt in Fulton County, Illinois, on an original 80-acre homestead obtained by Edward Duvall in 1818. Duvall built an L-shaped, two-story brick Gothic Revival house and a brick smokehouse around 1848, using walnut timbers and bricks made on the property. Singleton W. Ash and his family arrived in 1864 and expanded the farm. They added a rear wing, summer kitchen and an Italianate-influenced porch between the 1880s and 1910, and built a banked barn in the 1890s, a gambrel-roofed dairy barn in 1909, granaries and a chicken coop. The house keeps vergeboards, finials, pointed-arch windows and gables. Seven buildings contribute, while later machine sheds, a garage, a silo and grain bins do not. The nomination argues that the farmstead is a complete and well-preserved ensemble, unusual in the area for its high-style house. The nominated area covers about ten acres.","period_of_significance":"C. 1848-1910","architect_builder":"Unknown (house and smokehouse built by Edward Duvall; additions by Singleton W.
