The house was built in 1891-92 by builder Charles Willis Craw for Henry T. Botsford.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is a highly intact, representative example of Queen Anne residential architecture in Greene County. Its irregular massing, corner tower, varied wall finishes, spindlework and original interior details survive from construction. It is also described as one of the finest residences in Greenville and a local landmark tied to the town's late nineteenth-century development.","narrative":"Built in 1891-92 on a 2.77 acre parcel along Route 81 in Greenville, Greene County, this three-story frame house was commissioned by Henry T. Botsford, a member of a prominent local family, and constructed by carpenter Charles Willis Craw for about $3,000. It has fifteen rooms, a brick-faced stone foundation, walls of cedar clapboard and wood shingle, and a three-story engaged corner tower with open porches and an iron-crested pyramidal roof. Inside, parquet floors in oak, maple, walnut and chestnut, carved mantels, pocket doors and original hardwood finishes survive. A two-story carriage house/barn from 1894 still contains stalls and other farm features. The property was listed for its architecture: it is an outstanding, highly intact local example of the Queen Anne style, with irregular massing, projecting bays and spindlework. A local newspaper in 1891 predicted it would be the finest residence in the village, and it remains an important local landmark.","period_of_significance":"1891-1892","architect_builder":"Craw, Charles Willis, Builder","architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Historic and current function are both single-family dwelling; the interior and exterior are described as highly intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:51:50.772046-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/93001224.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/93001224/c79510ab61-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/93001224/c79510ab61-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"RobertDrake2015","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Henry_T._Botsford_House_11-10-2016.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">RobertDrake2015</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Henry_T._Botsford_House_11-10-2016.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317924","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_T._Botsford_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5728925"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/greene-county/botsford-henry-t-house-93001224/"}
