It was lived in by the McBane family from 1853 until 1961.","narrative":"Set at the end of a long lane in southeastern Alamance County, this farmstead is a group of two log buildings joined by a shared porch roof. A one-room log kitchen and a one-story hall-and-parlor log house date to about 1850, and a frame side room was added in 1892 by Sherman McBane, according to a chimney date brick. Both log units show precisely fitted V-notched corners, and each has an exterior fieldstone chimney with a brick stack. Camilus McBane, a Quaker farmer born in 1832, is the earliest known owner and reportedly moved in during 1853. His descendants lived here until 1961, when a grandson built a brick ranch house in the front yard. The log buildings are now used for storage and remain in sound condition, with little alteration beyond the late 1930s removal of a corner staircase and partition. The property was listed for its architecture as a well-preserved example of regional log construction.","period_of_significance":"c. 1850; 1892","architect_builder":"McBane, Sherman, builder (addition); builder of the original log house unknown","architectural_style":"Other: log; multi-room plan (hall-and-parlor)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Both log buildings are in sound, stable condition, though missing gable boards and rotted porch planks give a deteriorated appearance; the log house is currently used for storage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:57:50.068827-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/14/7172/47717214/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NC/93001196.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/47717214","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camilus_McBane_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q17513821"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/north-carolina/alamance-county/mcbane-camilus-house-93001196/"}
