C. Trowell.","why_significant":"The house is argued to be a good, intact example of the Queen Anne style in a small Georgia town, with an asymmetrical plan, corner tower, decorative shingles and ornamental brackets. It keeps much of its original material, including mantels, doors, surrounds and staircase. It is also one of Jesup's rare surviving Queen Anne buildings.","narrative":"Built around 1902 on Cherry Street in Jesup, this two-story Queen Anne house sits a block from the Wayne County Courthouse. It has a multi-gabled roof, asymmetrical massing, a corner octagonal tower with a conical roof, and a front porch with turned posts and scalloped brackets. Decorative wooden shingles fill the gable ends, and small colored glass lights frame some windows. Inside, heart pine, corner fireplaces, molded surrounds and classically ornamented mantels survive. John W. C. Trowell, a local businessman, tax collector and city councilman, had the house built; the 1902 date comes from a penciled ledger note. The Trowells later rented rooms and apartments to tenants, and a rear addition and other changes followed before 1939. The house is recognized for its architecture as a good, largely intact small-town example of a popular Victorian-era style. It was rehabilitated as a bed and breakfast inn in 1990.","period_of_significance":"1902-1939","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Late Victorian/Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Rehabilitated in 1990 for use as a bed and breakfast inn; current function listed as domestic/hotel, with the third-floor attic being rehabilitated as a bedroom suite.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.19262-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/93000944.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/93000944/ec6d2bde82-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/93000944/ec6d2bde82-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Bubba73","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_W._C._Trowell_House,_Jesup,_GA,_US_(06).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Bubba73</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:John_W._C._Trowell_House,_Jesup,_GA,_US_(06).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93209891","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_W._C._Trowell_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q42377520"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/wayne-county/trowell-john-w-c-house-93000944/"}
