Built between 1902 and 1904, it consolidated the district's two schools at one site. Local residents cut and hauled timber, which was sawed and planed by a local mill operator, and neighbors raised money for nails, windows and other materials. The building has a full-width front porch, a side-hip standing seam metal roof and a central bell tower used to call students. Two teachers taught grades through ninth, one in each half of the first floor. The Masons used the upper floor as a meeting space under a lease. The school closed in 1943, when the county consolidated its rural schools. It is valued as a well-preserved example of early twentieth-century rural school design and as evidence of the community's commitment to education. It now hosts monthly meetings of the Amity Community Club.","period_of_significance":"1902 - 1943","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Other: vernacular","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Currently used as a meeting hall; in good condition, with the second floor unused for several years and its entrance boarded.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:42.947012-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/93000933.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206320","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amity_School","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q16160038"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/lincoln-county/amity-school-93000933/"}
