It mixes Queen Anne and Classical Revival features, and the 1910 remodeling has gained significance as part of its evolution. It is listed under Criterion C for architecture.","narrative":"Located at 517 North Richmond in Wharton, this two-story frame house began around 1893 as a Pyramidal-roof dwelling with Queen Anne influence. About 1910 it was remodeled with a two-story pedimented portico carried on oversize Doric columns, along with a wraparound second-story porch with a wood balustrade. The side elevation still shows its original character, including a projecting three-bay window and decorative bargeboard. The house sits on brick piers under a hipped roof with lower cross gables. H. J. Bolton, a local merchant and later first president of the Wharton National Bank, acquired the lot in 1893 and probably built the house soon afterward. Dr. L. B. Outlar, a physician and drugstore owner, bought it in 1919, and his family kept it until 1973. The house is valued for architecture, as an example of two stylistic influences combined, and as one of the finest Classical Revival buildings in Wharton.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1910","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals: Classical Revival (with Queen Anne influence)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a single dwelling; a modern frame garage on the lot is noncontributing.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:23.596923-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/20/9707/40970720/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/93000108.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/93000108/a72166ba4e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/93000108/a72166ba4e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bolton-Outlar_House,_Wharton,_TX.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bolton-Outlar_House,_Wharton,_TX.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"93000124","name":"Linn Street Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/texas/linn-street-historic-district-93000124/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970720","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110002526"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/wharton-county/bolton-outlar-house-93000108/"}
