The architect and builder are unknown.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it the finest example of the T-plan house type in Wharton and a representative of local vernacular building traditions. Although in fair condition, it keeps most of its integrity. It is listed under Criterion C for architecture within the context of community development in Wharton, 1875-1942.","narrative":"This one-story frame house at 612 West Caney Street in Wharton, Texas, dates to about 1905 and follows a T-plan layout. It faces south, northwest of the central business district, and has a cross-gabled asphalt-shingle roof on brick piers. Weatherboard siding covers the main block and the rear ell, and most windows are wooden double-hung sash. Small two-bay porches flank the projecting front gable and have turned columns, brackets and jig-sawn trim. A frame garage on the lot is counted as contributing. F.F. Dannon acquired the property in 1900 and transferred it in 1911 to F.B. Ellis, which supports the estimated construction date. The house was listed for architecture because it is regarded as the best surviving T-plan in Wharton and a good example of the town's vernacular domestic building. Although in fair condition, it retains most of its integrity and still serves as a single-family dwelling.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1905","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"OTHER: T-plan House","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in fair condition; historic and current use is single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.000731-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/48/9707/40970748/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/93000095.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970748","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000907"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/wharton-county/dannon-f-f-house-93000095/"}
