It is also the only surviving Sacramento building designed and built by the Order of the Eastern Star, and one of a few buildings devoted to women's institutional interests in the city.","narrative":"Eastern Star Hall, at 2719 K Street in Sacramento, is a large meeting hall of polychrome brick and terra cotta, finished in 1928 across the street from Sutter's Fort State Historic Park. Designed by Coffman, Salsbury & Stafford and built by L. Frederick Gould, it combines Romanesque Revival style with Moorish or Byzantine touches. A three-arched central entry with Corinthian columns, terra cotta cornices and a tile roof mark the front. Inside, a grand staircase leads to a third-floor auditorium with a coffered ceiling, a large maple floor, a stage and a balcony. Five Sacramento chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star raised funds by selling stock, and the hall was dedicated on October 16, 1928. It is listed for its architecture and social history. It is the only surviving Sacramento building designed and built by the order, and it is one of a handful of local buildings tied to women's organizations. Alterations have been minimal, and the hall is still used for meetings.","period_of_significance":"1928-1942","architect_builder":"Coffman, Salsbury & Stafford, Architects; Gould, L.
