It has been moved twice and rehabilitated.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is significant in architecture as a now fairly rare example of the Plantation Plain type common in Georgia in the early to mid-19th century. It keeps the type's exterior form, its central-hall plan and some original fabric such as heart-pine floors, paneling and doors. It is described as one of the oldest buildings in Peach County.","narrative":"Built around 1834 by James Everett, an early settler and large landowner, this two-story house in Fort Valley, Peach County, represents the Plantation Plain type once common across Georgia. It began as a one-story dogtrot with an open passage between two rooms; the passage was later enclosed. The house was moved less than 100 feet around 1912, then about two miles in 1982 to avoid demolition, onto land that had been part of the Everett property. Termites and neglect had damaged it, so the rehabilitation kept what historic material could be saved, including heart-pine floors, paneled doors, front windows and some mortise-and-tenon framing. The rear shed was rebuilt and a two-story addition was added. The house was listed for its architecture: it retains the two-story main block, rear shed, front porch and central-hall plan with two rooms on each side. It is described as one of the oldest buildings in Peach County and one of few surviving examples of its type in Georgia.","period_of_significance":"C. 1834","architect_builder":"James Everett","architectural_style":"Plantation Plain","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Rehabilitated in 1982 after termite damage and neglect; still in use as a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.586329-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/92001674.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92001674/a38234e27e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92001674/a38234e27e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jud McCranie","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:James_A._Everett_house,_Fort_Valley,_GA,_US.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jud McCranie</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:James_A._Everett_house,_Fort_Valley,_GA,_US.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93209237","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134440926"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/peach-county/everett-james-a-house-92001674/"}
