It keeps the two-story cure porches, call buttons and other features used for outdoor tuberculosis treatment, and it remains virtually intact.","narrative":"Built in 1930 on Glenwood Road in Saranac Lake, this side-gabled Colonial Revival house sits on a sloping, wooded lot in Glenwood Estates, a restricted suburb of upper-class homes begun in 1911. It has a rectangular plan, concrete foundation, clapboard and asphalt shingle siding, and a symmetrical front with a pedimented center door under a pent roof. A two-story end porch holds the features that mark it as a cure cottage: sliding and hinged windows, call buttons in the porches, bedrooms and bathrooms, and a bell over the maid's room door. The first porch is large enough to turn a bed. The house was first occupied by L. Celeste Thierot, a tuberculosis patient, then by Collier Baird, a Connecticut gentleman farmer who came for his health, and was later sold to the General Hospital of Saranac Lake. It was listed as a representative cure cottage from the last building boom, and it retains a high degree of integrity.","period_of_significance":"1930-c.1940","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th & 20th Century Revivals: Colonial Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Listed as a single dwelling in both historic and current function; the form says the house remains virtually intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.991215-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/92001466.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92001466/d242f8cd3b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92001466/d242f8cd3b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Mwanner","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Baird_Cottage,_Saranac_Lake,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Mwanner</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Baird_Cottage,_Saranac_Lake,_NY.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"93001451","name":"New York Central Railroad Adirondack Division Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/new-york-central-railroad-adirondack-division-historic-district-93001451/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312993","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baird_Cottage","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4848608"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/franklin-county/baird-cottage-92001466/"}
