It has a cross-gable roof of asphalt shingles, a fieldstone foundation and narrow clapboard siding. Windows are irregularly placed and contain one-over-one sash under diamond-shaped lights. A two-story cure porch spans the south front, with an inset porch on the first floor and a sleeping porch above, enclosed by a band of one-over-one sash. These porches are original and show the house was built for tuberculosis patients, and a 1917 health survey recorded such residents here. The house is considered a representative local example of cure cottage architecture, which flourished in the village between about 1870 and 1930. Despite some alterations, it keeps enough of its original character to document its role in tuberculosis treatment, and it remains a single dwelling.","period_of_significance":"ca.1916-ca.1940","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as altered over the years but retaining enough original detail and integrity of setting, location, materials, design and association; historic and current use is single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.581917-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/92001429.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92001429/0d56608665-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92001429/0d56608665-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Mwanner","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hooey_Cottage,_Saranac_Lake,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Mwanner</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hooey_Cottage,_Saranac_Lake,_NY.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"93001451","name":"New York Central Railroad Adirondack Division Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/new-york-central-railroad-adirondack-division-historic-district-93001451/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313060","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hooey_Cottage","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5897684"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/franklin-county/hooey-cottage-92001429/"}
