It retains a high level of integrity, with almost no structural change since 1930. It is also Thomson's only known work in Amarillo and reflects the wealth generated by the Panhandle's ranching, oil and real estate boom.","narrative":"Built in 1930 on nearly a full block in Amarillo's Bivins Addition, this 2 1/2-story red brick house was designed by Dallas architect Henry Bowers Thomson for Miles and Myda Bivins, whose wealth came from ranching, petroleum and real estate development. The design draws on Tudor Revival hallmarks: steeply pitched gables clad in wood shingles, elaborate chimneys with decorative pots, false half-timbering, diamond-pane windows, a Tudor arched entry and a parapeted cast stone bay window. Inside, carved wood moldings, coffered ceilings, a cast stone fireplace and a freestanding stair survive, along with much of the original furniture supplied by Marshall Field of Chicago. A garage with staff quarters and a greenhouse, both original, stand behind the house. The property was recognized for its architecture at the local level. It is Thomson's only known work in Amarillo and shows how oil-boom prosperity shaped the city's southwest residential suburbs in the 1920s and 1930s.","period_of_significance":"1930","architect_builder":"Thomson, Henry Bowers","architectural_style":"Tudor Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the form reports no structural changes since 1930 apart from modest kitchen updating.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.53962-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/92/9731/40973192/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/92001306.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92001306/081995455d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92001306/081995455d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"BriceWi999","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Miles_and_Myda_Bivins_House_2311_W._16th_Ave._Amarillo_20140916.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">BriceWi999</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Miles_and_Myda_Bivins_House_2311_W._16th_Ave._Amarillo_20140916.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40973192","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q107320629"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/potter-county/bivins-miles-and-myda-house-92001306/"}
