It is also a rare surviving early nineteenth century commercial building in East Victor. Its form and detailing reflect late Federal/early Greek Revival architecture.","narrative":"Built in the late 1830s at the crossroads of Route 96 and McMahon Road in East Victor, this two-story cobblestone building has served as a general store for generations. Its walls use multi-colored field cobbles, 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches across, laid four stones per limestone quoin on the front and sides. The front facade has three bays and a center entrance, with a cut limestone storefront of wide piers and a plain entablature. Title research suggests construction between 1836 and 1841, during the Felt family's ownership. The first floor remains a large open sales room with a small rear storage and office room, and the upper story is now an apartment. The store is one of about 20 cobblestone commercial buildings in New York and, among six cobblestone stores, is judged among the best preserved. It is also one of the few intact historic buildings left in a hamlet now largely overtaken by modern development. A later barn on the lot is not counted as contributing.","period_of_significance":"ca. late 1830s","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century; Greek Revival (described in the text as late Federal/early Greek Revival)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in commercial use as a store on the first floor; the second story has been converted into an apartment.
