It is described as the best example of that combination in Maywood, with an unaltered plan, intact ornamentation and excellent integrity. No architect is documented, though features resemble work by E.E. Roberts of Oak Park.","narrative":"This two-and-a-half story stucco house at the corner of North 5th Avenue and Huron Street in Maywood, Illinois, was built around 1906 after the lot passed to Caroline Millward in 1905. It follows the Foursquare form in massing and plan, but its strong horizontal emphasis, wide porch piers, deep eaves and lack of applied exterior ornament link it to Prairie School design. Inside, large rooms connected by broad openings, simple wide oak and cherry moldings, built-in cabinetry, a geometric brick fireplace and a paneled dining room ceiling carry the same rectangular theme. No architect is documented, although the central dormer, hip roof and broad porch resemble houses by E.E. Roberts of Oak Park. The house was listed for its architecture, as the best example in Maywood of a Foursquare with Prairie School detailing, and it retains its original plan and ornament. A matching stucco garage at the rear also contributes.","period_of_significance":"ca.1906","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Late 19th and Early 20th Century American Movements: Foursquare (with Prairie School characteristics)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in pristine condition with excellent integrity; the south porch has been glazed but the original floorplan and historic detailing are unchanged.
