It is also a representative example of mid-nineteenth century vernacular Federal/Greek Revival rural domestic architecture in the Finger Lakes region. Its later Victorian porch and verandah are noted as reminders of late nineteenth century Picturesque fashions.","narrative":"Built in the 1830s on a hillside in rural Starkey, this cobblestone farmhouse began as an L-shaped late Federal and early Greek Revival dwelling. Its walls use variously colored field cobbles laid four stones per quoin, with limestone lintels and sills, six-over-six windows, a side-hall plan and a louvered fanlight in the front gable. Before 1876 the house was updated with broad bracketed eaves, a front porch and a wrap-around verandah that keep their original woodwork. A frame rear wing was added in the same remodeling. Inside, the main block keeps Greek Revival trim and its original staircase. It is one of nine surviving cobblestone buildings in Yates County, and its rough masonry suggests an early use of the technique locally. Most of the original farm and its outbuildings are gone, so the listing covers only the house and a modern garage on 1.5 acres. The house remains a single-family residence.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1830s - ca. 1870s","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mid-19th Century: Greek Revival; Late Victorian","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the rear wing has been modernized, and the historic farm outbuildings are gone except a deteriorated barn across the road under separate ownership, which is not part of the nomination.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:44.541465-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/92000442.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75315529","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Supplee_Cobblestone_Farmhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5218872"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/yates-county/supplee-daniel-cobblestone-farmhouse-92000442/"}
