Most similar houses nearby have been sided or heavily altered. It is also stylistically transitional, bridging 19th-century Victorian and 20th-century simplified design.","narrative":"Built around 1901 at 602 North 3rd Avenue in Maywood, Illinois, this 1-1/2 story wood-frame cottage is nearly square, with a broad front porch, clapboard walls and a foundation of large ceramic tile blocks finished to resemble stone. It was one of six houses almost certainly built by the same builder on narrow lots along the west side of Third Avenue. James Munton bought the land from the Maywood Company in 1893, took out a mortgage in 1901 and sold the house in 1908 to Carl Robinson, whose family lived there for decades. The house is significant for its architecture and its unusually intact condition. Its neighbors have been sided, while it retains original clapboards, trim, room layout, pocket doors and balustrade. Its design is transitional: Gothic-inspired gable trim and classical-leaning moldings appear in highly simplified form, and a single parlor serves as a family living room. A later rear garage does not contribute.","period_of_significance":"1901","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Late 19th Century and Early 20th Century American Movements: Vernacular Square Cottage","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in very good condition with very few alterations and excellent integrity; historically and currently a single dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:35.2725-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/31/8908/28890831/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/92000046.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92000046/eed59c0851-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/92000046/eed59c0851-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"JPSousa","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robinson_House_2012-09-05_1.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">JPSousa</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Robinson_House_2012-09-05_1.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28890831","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robinson_House_(Maywood,_Illinois)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14688059"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/cook-county/robinson-house-92000046/"}
