It also reflects the rise of the oil industry in Fort Worth's economy, since it housed the Sinclair Oil Company. It is listed under Criterion C in the area of Architecture.","narrative":"Rising sixteen stories at the corner of Main and Fifth Streets in downtown Fort Worth, this office tower opened in November 1930. Fort Worth architect Wiley Gulick Clarkson designed it for oilman Richard Otto Dulaney, and contractor Harry B. Friedman built it. It was first called the Dulaney Building until the Sinclair Oil Company pre-leased most of it during construction. A fourteen-story U-plan shaft rises from a two-story base, with setbacks near the top. Limestone, cast stone, green spandrels and red granite are decorated with zigzag, chevron and Mayan-inspired stepped-fret motifs, and an arcade with marble and ornamental ceilings runs through the ground floor. The building was altered over the years, including removal of the Main Street entrance in 1959, and restoration began in 1988. It was listed as a fine local example of Zigzag Moderne design and as a reflection of the petroleum industry's growing role in the city's economy.","period_of_significance":"1930","architect_builder":"Clarkson, Wiley G., architect; Friedman, Harry B., builder","architectural_style":"Modern Movement/Art Deco (Zigzag Moderne)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Restored beginning in 1988 to its 1930s appearance; still in commercial business use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.921632-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/15/9734/40973415/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/91001913.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91001913/73795906e9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91001913/73795906e9-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Michael Barera","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fort_Worth_June_2016_57_(Sinclair_Building).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Barera</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fort_Worth_June_2016_57_(Sinclair_Building).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40973415","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_Building_(Fort_Worth)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q97586039"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/tarrant-county/sinclair-building-91001913/"}
