It also has one of the few large, architecturally distinctive late-nineteenth century farmhouses in the town. It keeps all the acreage the Stillman family had assembled by 1835 and remains a working farm.","narrative":"This farmstead on Route 104 east of the village of Mexico, in Oswego County, covers 92.5 acres and includes a seventeen-room Queen Anne farmhouse, a barn, and an early-twentieth century garage. Chester and Almira Stillman bought the first 60 acres in 1828 and another 30 in 1835. They built a log cabin, then a small frame house. In 1889 their son Charles had his brother Henry, a printer by trade, build the present house, with carved dormers, a decorative porch and walnut interior woodwork. The barn, begun in 1840, grew in stages from storage building to dairy barn, and its later milkhouses and early square silo record changes in dairy farming. The garage reflects the growing role of automobiles on farms. The Stillman family owned the farm until 1913. Its listing rests on its agricultural history and its architecture, and it still operates as a farm.","period_of_significance":"1840-1913 (amended from the 1828-1913 stated on the form)","architect_builder":"Stillman, Henry","architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Remains an active farm; the present owners have left dairying and use the land and barns for hay production and storage.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.952395-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/91000525.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91000525/cce8d15dfd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91000525/cce8d15dfd-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Jj21760","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stillman_house.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jj21760</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stillman_house.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314315","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stillman_Farmstead","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7617253"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/oswego-county/stillman-farmstead-91000525/"}
