Hepburn.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is the most prominent reminder of Concord's earliest secondary village outside the town center, which grew around Hildreth's house and general store. It is also an outstanding late Georgian house by rural master-builder Reuben Duren. The 1941 additions show the work of restoration architect Andrew H. Hepburn in his own residence.","narrative":"Standing at the corner of Lowell and Barrett's Mill Roads in Concord, this two-acre property centers on a five-bay, two-story Georgian house of brick and clapboard built for Jonathan Hildreth just after the Revolution. Hildreth, a lieutenant and army provisioner, also opened a general store that became the hub of a small village known as Hildreth's Corner, which grew to include an inn, blacksmith, cooper shop and over a dozen houses. The main house was designed and built by Reuben Duren, whose entry and newel post details draw on Batty Langley's pattern books. Behind it sits an older mid-eighteenth-century half-house, now a rear ell. In 1922 the property was bought by architect Andrew H. Hepburn, known for Colonial Williamsburg's restoration, who added a west wing and loggia in 1941. A nineteenth-century wooden fence and a summerhouse also survive. The property was listed for its community history and architecture.","period_of_significance":"1783-1790; 1780-1941","architect_builder":"Duren, Reuben; Hepburn, Andrew H.","architectural_style":"Colonial/Georgian; New England Colonial; Late 19th Century Revival/Georgian Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Currently in use as a single dwelling; the main block and Hepburn additions are described as nearly intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.822823-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/56/7957/63795756/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/91000362.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91000362/361b51d6f1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91000362/361b51d6f1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY 3.0","author":"John Phelan","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jonathan_Hildreth_House,_Concord_MA.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">John Phelan</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jonathan_Hildreth_House,_Concord_MA.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63795756","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Hildreth_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715649"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/middlesex-county/hildreth-jonathan-house-91000362/"}
