Roger Haddock, a storekeeper and later village president, had it built in 1875-6 by his brother-in-law William Hand, a builder who worked with architect Richard Morris Hunt. The ground floor held a store and warehouse, while the second floor served as the village hall, library and a music hall for entertainments until about 1900. Later it became a motor works for yachts and, from about 1926 to 1975, a textile mill. It is now a residence. Its angular decorative brickwork, segmental-arched windows and paneled piers are typical of the neo-Grec style, and the interior retains bare brick walls, wood floors and a wide stairhall. The nomination presents it as a rare regional example of a store combined with a village hall and library, and as the most prominent surviving symbol of late nineteenth century village life in Piermont.","period_of_significance":"1875-1926","architect_builder":"William Hand","architectural_style":"Classical Revival (form classification); described in the text as neo-Grec","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Now used as a residence; formerly a store, village hall, library, motor works and textile mill (textile use ended about 1975).","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.627932-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/91000103.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91000103/26e4127eb6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91000103/26e4127eb6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ, M.D.","credit_html":"JERRYE & ROY KLOTZ, M.D., CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HADDOCK%27S_HALL,_PIERMONT,_ROCKLAND_COUNTY,_NY.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75321450","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haddock%27s_Hall","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5637684"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/rockland-county/haddocks-hall-91000103/"}
