Hidden.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is a highly intact, distinguished and textbook example of Neo-Georgian residential architecture in Dutchess County. It retains an extremely high degree of interior and exterior integrity. It is also described as one of the most architecturally significant estate buildings surviving in the Harlem River Valley.","narrative":"Hiddenhurst is a 1903 mansion on a hilltop in Millerton, in northern Dutchess County, overlooking the Harlem River Valley. Thomas B. Hidden, a New York paint manufacturer turned real estate investor, built it as the centerpiece of a 450-acre country estate, where he lived until his death in 1918 and raised trotter ponies and ran a dairy farm. Today the house sits on about seventeen acres. The two-story, three-bay, hip-roofed building has a monumental two-story Corinthian portico, a wraparound veranda, a leaded-glass entrance with a stained glass transom, and brick chimneys with blind arches. Inside, a central hall with a cantilevered spiral stair and a domed ceiling leads to rooms finished in styles from Rococo to Late Georgian. No architect is known, but the design closely resembles an ideal house published in 1904. It was listed for its architecture and its high degree of surviving integrity.","period_of_significance":"1903","architect_builder":"Unknown (not attributed to a specific architect)","architectural_style":"Colonial Revival (described in the text as Neo-Georgian / Georgian Revival)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a single dwelling; the 17-acre parcel is a remnant of the original 450-acre estate, and a garage/caretaker's house on the property is non-contributing.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.127133-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/91000102.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91000102/84c953bd4e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/91000102/84c953bd4e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Case","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hiddenhurst,_Millerton,_NY.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Case</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hiddenhurst,_Millerton,_NY.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"93000945","name":"Coleman Station Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/coleman-station-historic-district-93000945/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317364","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiddenhurst","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5752114"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/dutchess-county/hiddenhurst-91000102/"}
