B. Kinchion. A brick two-car garage stands at the rear.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is the best example in Belton of an Arts and Crafts bungalow, meeting Criterion C in the area of Architecture. It is a late but unusually well-detailed example of the style. It also relates to the growth of the middle class between the World Wars.","narrative":"Built in 1929 by L. B. Kinchion, this 1-story red brick bungalow sits on a large corner lot in a residential part of South Belton. Kinchion was a prominent member of the local black community and for a time Grand Chancellor of the black Knights of Pythias. The house has a modified rectangular plan, a cross-gabled roof with extended eaves, ornamental rafter ends and curvilinear knee braces. Its porch is unusual, reached indirectly by a low terrace with a brick balustrade and corner pylons. Windows are grouped in threes, and a large wood and brick pergola on the north side suggests the Chalet influence on bungalow design. A matching brick garage stands at the rear. The house was recognized as the best example in Belton of an Arts and Crafts bungalow. Although a comparatively late example of a style popular from about 1905 to the 1930s, it is unusually well detailed. It also reflects the growth of the middle class between the World Wars.","period_of_significance":"1929","architect_builder":"L. B.
