It is also described as a symbol of the achievements of South Plains pioneers Tubbs and Carlisle. It is larger and more finely detailed than typical rural homes of the era.","narrative":"Built in 1908 on the Texas South Plains, this 1 1/2-story frame farmhouse at 602 Fulton Avenue in Lubbock was designed as a duplex for two related families. Isham Tubbs, whose family had 12 children, and his brother-in-law Gus Carlisle, an elderly childless man, built it on Carlisle's land so the Tubbs children could attend the new Lubbock school. Lumber was shipped by rail to Amarillo and hauled by wagon, and an unnamed transient carpenter did the work. The house shows Queen Anne character through its irregular massing, bay windows, hipped roofs with cross gables, fish scale shingles, beaded shiplap siding and Tuscan porch columns. It was listed as locally significant for architecture, as Lubbock's only intact Queen Anne residence on its original site and a late rural example of the style. Cotton fields still lie to the west and north, while modern subdivisions lie to the south and east. Restoration work is under way.","period_of_significance":"1908","architect_builder":"Unknown (built by a transient carpenter whose name has been lost)","architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single-family residence by descendants of the Tubbs family, who are restoring it; no outbuildings of the former farm remain.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.565566-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/74/9728/40972874/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/90001719.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90001719/f7786ea5c1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90001719/f7786ea5c1-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Lorimgarcia at English Wikipedia","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tubbs-house.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Lorimgarcia at English Wikipedia</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tubbs-house.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40972874","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubbs%E2%80%93Carlisle_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7850735"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/lubbock-county/tubbs-carlisle-house-90001719/"}
