It holds the main concentration of historic homes from the mid-19th to early 20th centuries and meets Criterion C as a distinguishable entity embodying the characteristics of a period.","narrative":"Just southwest of Bryan's central business district, this roughly 25-acre neighborhood preserves the residential growth of the Williams County seat, which was once popularly known as \"The Fountain City.\" Its 89 contributing buildings are mostly two-story and one-and-a-half-story frame or brick houses on grid-pattern streets with fairly uniform setbacks and common front porches. Styles range from Greek Revival, Italianate and Second Empire to Folk Victorian, Stick, Colonial Revival and Bungalow/Craftsman. Highlights include a High Victorian Italianate house with a mansard-roofed corner tower on Beech Street and a 1912 Colonial Revival house on South Lynn Street designed by Toledo architect Harry Wachter. A former brewery converted to apartments and a brick Gothic church anchor the ends of Beech Street. The district was recognized for architecture, with a period of significance from about 1865 to 1935. Twelve resources, mainly garages and sheds, do not contribute to its character.","period_of_significance":"c.1865 to 1935","architect_builder":"Harry Wachter; E.O.
