It holds a farmhouse, a boarding house, five seasonal bungalows and associated outbuildings dating from about 1820 to about 1925.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the district is an architecturally significant group of late 19th and early 20th century seasonal buildings. It shows Lyme's shift from farming to a seasonal and recreational economy, and it holds the town's earliest seasonal development and its only concentration of early bungalows. It also includes the town's only surviving seasonal boarding house and its only high-style 1890s farmhouse.","narrative":"Point Salubrious Historic District is a small group of farm and resort buildings on the western shore of a peninsula near Chaumont, in the town of Lyme. It includes an early farmhouse later enlarged as the boarding house known as The Lodge, a c.1892 farmhouse called Windemere, five hip-roofed seasonal bungalows from 1908 to 1925, and several outbuildings and pumphouses. The land began as the farm of Nathaniel Warner, who settled the Point in 1815 and built his house around 1820. In 1875 his grandson Alvah Warner found a mineral spring on the property, which led to a summer boardinghouse in 1878 and later a private club for Watertown families. The district was listed for its architecture. It preserves Lyme's only seasonal boarding house, its only high-style 1890s farmhouse, and its only concentration of early twentieth century bungalows, which show the move from agriculture to a resort economy.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Nathaniel Warner (builder of the c.1820 farmhouse)","architectural_style":"Queen Anne vernacular farmhouse; Bungalow and Arts & Crafts influenced seasonal cottages","criteria":["C"],"status_note":null,"vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.061526-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/90001339.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313168","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Salubrious_Historic_District","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7208161"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/jefferson-county/point-salubrious-historic-district-90001339/"}
