It is the sole link to the extensive Ramsey Nursery grounds. It was the home of F.T. Ramsey, one of Texas' best-known nurserymen and horticulturalists.","narrative":"Built in 1894 at 4412 Avenue B in Austin's Hyde Park area, this two-story frame house was the home of nurseryman Frank Taylor Ramsey and his wife, Belle. It has an L-shaped plan, a steeply pitched cross-gabled roof, jigsawn trim and a two-story L-shaped porch with turned-wood columns, diamond-patterned shingles in a pent roof, and a checkered balustrade. Ramsey bought the lots in February 1894 and took over the family nursery north of 45th Street after his father died in 1895. His nursery is credited with developing dozens of varieties of peaches, plums and other fruits and nuts, earning him the nickname \"Fruit Tree\" Ramsey. The house is one of the few large Victorian-era residences surviving from Hyde Park's earliest development and the only reminder of the nursery grounds that shaped the area in the early twentieth century. It was listed for its architecture and its association with Ramsey.","period_of_significance":"1894-1932","architect_builder":"unknown","architectural_style":"Vernacular; Queen Anne; L-plan","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Historic single dwelling; current use listed as multiple dwelling.
