With its 1922 addition it also recorded the presence of the Associated Gas & Electric Company's offices in Ithaca until 1936. It also represents the most prosperous period of the Driscoll Brothers & Company contracting and design firm.","narrative":"Standing at the northeast corner of South Cayuga and East Green streets in downtown Ithaca, this four-story brick building was erected in 1916 for the newly consolidated Ithaca Gas & Electric Corporation. Driscoll Brothers & Company designed and built it, then added a fourth story in 1922. Colossal red brick piers, an entablature of Onondaga litholite and galvanized iron, and a shaped parapet suggest a classical temple, while large plate glass windows mark it as a practical commercial structure. Inside, steel columns encased in concrete support the floors, and a mahogany-finished open staircase rises through the main stories. The first floor served as a customer office and appliance showroom, and the third-floor auditorium hosted women's clubs until about 1919. After 1922 the upper floors housed executive and accounting offices of the Associated Gas & Electric Company until it left for Delaware in 1936. The building also reflects the peak of Driscoll Brothers' work. Later alterations removed little original fabric.","period_of_significance":"1916-36","architect_builder":"Driscoll Brothers & Company","architectural_style":"Classical Revival (Neo-Classical Revival)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed recent function is government office; the building is known as the City Hall Annex and is linked to City Hall by enclosed bridges.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.824815-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/90000734.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75322507","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q137303454"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/tompkins-county/ithaca-gas-and-electric-corporation-building-90000734/"}
