Dentzel and Daniel Muller.","why_significant":"The carousel is argued to be a classic example of a large, elaborately carved early 20th century amusement park carousel showing the workmanship of master carvers William H. Dentzel and Daniel Muller. Muller re-carved many of the animals during a refurbishment before the 1936 Chicago World's Fair. Despite being moved, it retains integrity of design, materials, workmanship and setting.","narrative":"A twelve-panel conical wooden roof tops this carousel in Kiddieland at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. Dated to about 1924, it carries two chariots and 52 animals on a 57-foot turntable: 16 stationary and 36 that rise and fall as it turns. Horses, bears, rabbits, ostriches, a lion, a tiger and a donkey ride three abreast, and a Wurlitzer band organ supplies the music. The central drum is decorated with lights, mirrored panels, gilded rosettes and floral swags. The carousel is recognized as a fine example of an early twentieth century amusement park machine showing the work of master carvers William H. Dentzel and Daniel Muller. Muller re-carved many animals when the machine was refurbished in Memphis before the 1936 Chicago World's Fair. It earlier ran at Hunting Park in Germantown, Pennsylvania, and came to Cedar Point in 1968. Few such carousels survive, and this one keeps its integrity despite the move.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1924 - 1936","architect_builder":"William H.
