Its hipped roof, four-square plan and even fenestration are characteristic of the type. It also relates to the local context of community development and regional expansion from 1870 to 1941.","narrative":"Built around 1910 for the Holle family, this two-story frame house at 1002 South Day Street in Brenham follows the American Foursquare form. It sits on a brick foundation under a hipped roof of asphalt shingles, with a brick chimney on the west slope. The four-bay east facade is dominated by five giant boxed columns with inset panels, joined by a simple wooden balustrade that completes inset porches on both floors. Paired windows, a central door with sidelights and transoms covered in Chippendale woodwork, and two hipped dormers add detail. A one-story porte cochere is on the north side, and a frame shed stands at the west end of the lot. Originally a single-family home, it was later adapted to multi-family use. It is valued as an excellent and well-preserved example of the Foursquare type, of which only a few remain in Brenham, and it reflects early twentieth-century residential growth in the city.","period_of_significance":"c.1910","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late 19th and early 20th century American Foursquare","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Described as in excellent condition and appearing to have been recently rehabilitated; adapted to multi-family residential use in recent years.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.626144-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/11/9706/40970611/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/90000458.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000458/b6f436e586-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000458/b6f436e586-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Renelibrary","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brenham_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Renelibrary</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brenham_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970611","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110002484"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/washington-county/holle-edmund-house-90000458/"}
