It is considered locally significant in engineering and retains integrity of material, design and setting.","narrative":"Built in 1889 by the Pittsburgh Bridge Company, the Runk Bridge is a two-span, pin-connected steel Pratt through truss spanning Aughwick Creek. Its total length is 267.5 feet, and a 13-foot-wide yellow pine deck rests on wooden stringers. The bridge has one concrete pier and high concrete abutments covered with lime and cement plaster. It carries Township Road 373 at the intersection with Township Road 380 in a rural part of Huntingdon County, roughly a mile and a half south of Shirleysburg. Local records identify it as Bridge No. 9 in the county system. It is regarded as one of the county's few surviving pin-connected Pratt through trusses from the late nineteenth century. Its engineering design is considered locally important, and its materials, design and setting remain largely intact. The bridge is also a visible landmark beside the East Broad Top Railroad, a National Historic Landmark, and U.S. Route 522.","period_of_significance":"1889","architect_builder":"Pittsburgh Bridge Company","architectural_style":"Other: Pratt Truss Bridge","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"The bridge has been well maintained and retains its integrity of material, design and setting.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:36.496449-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/90000408.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000408/d1af390b46-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000408/d1af390b46-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Jack Boucher","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Runk_Bridge.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Boucher</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Runk_Bridge.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71993027","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runk_Bridge","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7379889"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/huntingdon-county/runk-bridge-90000408/"}
