It is one of only two houses by the firm with an exposed concrete exterior. It is also a very early and sophisticated example of Mission Revival style in Cincinnati.","narrative":"Built around 1900 on Grandin Road in Cincinnati's Hyde Park area, this three-story house combines a wood frame with a rough cement stucco covering over metal lath. Its Mission Revival features include a red curved-tile hip roof, shaped gable dormers, wide eaves and a square tower with a pyramidal roof. Inside are a central vestibule with an oak stair, Tiffany sconces and an octagonal second-floor room. The house was designed in 1899 by the Cincinnati firm Elzner & Anderson for attorney George Hoadley Jr. and his family, and it stayed in the family until 1988. It matters because it is the firm's earliest work in the concrete tradition that later brought it recognition, including the Ingalls Building. It is one of two houses by the firm with an exposed concrete exterior. A 1907 cement company publication featured it, and the Mission Revival design was unusually early for the Cincinnati area.","period_of_significance":"C. 1900","architect_builder":"Elzner & Anderson, Cincinnati, Ohio","architectural_style":"Mission Revival","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Used as a single dwelling. The exterior is largely unaltered, with a minor change to the east porch. The interior has updated bathrooms and kitchen. The carriage house is in poor condition.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.570695-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/90000380.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000380/a894470f42-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000380/a894470f42-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_Hoadley_Jr._House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_Hoadley_Jr._House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988941","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hoadley_Jr._House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5540640"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/hoadley-george-jr-house-90000380/"}
