Its core dates to about 1700-1725, with Federal-era additions from about 1790-1820.","why_significant":"The northeast end of the house preserves a late First Period single-cell house with integrity of design, workmanship, materials and location. Later additions show how the house was enlarged and restyled over time, and may yield information about transitional house plans.","narrative":"This house at 922 Dale Street in North Andover began as a single-cell, 2 1/2-story dwelling built in the late First Period, about 1700-1725. That original core, now the northeast end, had three bays, a west-wall chimney and a 37-degree roof pitch. Between 1740 and 1780 a room was added to the west, and a rear ell followed. In the Federal period, roughly 1790-1820, two rooms were added on the south front, the roof was raised, an east porch entry was built, and the central chimney was replaced by paired interior stacks. Early framing survives in the northeast first-floor room, including a summer beam with beveled chamfer and lamb's tongue stops, and in the attic, where original rafters show the early roof form. The later rooms keep Federal mantels and panels. The house was listed for the survival of its First Period core and for what its additions reveal about changing house plans. An 18th-century barn and later outbuildings stand on the property.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"First Period / Federal updating","criteria":["C","D"],"status_note":"Condition described as good; present use is residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.795206-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/59/7898/63789859/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/90000248.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000248/d5600c8f7c-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000248/d5600c8f7c-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"User:Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NorthAndoverMA_922DaleStreet.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">User:Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NorthAndoverMA_922DaleStreet.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789859","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_922_Dale_Street","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5914501"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/house-at-922-dale-street-90000248/"}
