It is a 2 1/2 story, five-bay, central-chimney house on an 8.8-acre semi-rural site near the Rowley line.","why_significant":"The house keeps a high degree of First Period integrity in its frame, simple fittings and unaltered finishes, including early paint and soot-blackened ceilings. Its paint and plaster evidence may yield information about this building type, and the unusual piecing of the right end girt merits further study. It is also associated with Paul Pillsbury, an inventor who bought the house in 1801-2.","narrative":"Set on nearly nine acres of meadow and woodland near the Rowley line, this farmhouse at 170 Jewett Street in Georgetown dates from after 1700. It began as a single-cell, 2 1/2 story structure to the right of the chimney, and rooms to the left were added within a generation. Today it is five bays wide with a central chimney, clapboards on the front, and shingles on the sides and rear. An ell was attached in 1856. The house has escaped major remodeling and keeps wooden latches and pegs, cupboards, feather-edged sheathing, early paint and soot-blackened ceilings. Brick nogging was found in the walls, and the right end girt shows an unusual piecing worth further study. The house was listed for the integrity of its First Period construction and for the information its paint and plaster may hold. It is also tied to Paul Pillsbury, an inventor who bought it in 1801-2 and developed a corn sheller, a bark mill and a shoe pegging machine.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"First Period","criteria":["C","D"],"status_note":"Condition is described as good; the house is a present residence and was originally a residence. An ell was attached in 1856 and an 18th-century barn survives.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.084732-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/27/7898/63789827/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/90000210.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000210/60a241f49e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000210/60a241f49e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GeorgetownMA_DickinsonPillsburyWithamHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GeorgetownMA_DickinsonPillsburyWithamHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789827","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dickinson%E2%80%93Pillsbury%E2%80%93Witham_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5273720"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/dickinson-pillsbury-witham-house-90000210/"}
