Its two-phase frame shows how one-cell dwellings were quickly enlarged as owners' money and needs allowed. Mid-18th-century raised field paneling adds further interest.","narrative":"This house at 225 East Main Street in Georgetown, Massachusetts, dates to about 1710, based on deed research. It is a 2 1/2 story, five-bay, central-chimney dwelling of the First Period, covered in clapboards. The right-hand rooms and chimney bay formed the original single-cell house. The left-hand rooms were added within a few years, and a lean-to followed, probably by the mid-18th century. A larger barn was moved up to the left end and converted to living space in 1906. Inside, chamfered frame members with lamb's tongue stops are exposed in two rooms, and framing joints and attic rafters show clearly how the building grew in stages. Mid-18th-century raised field paneling survives on one fireplace wall, and the lean-to has a fireplace with smoke panel and rear oven. The house was jacked up and structurally repaired, though much interior work remains. It is valued for its surviving late First Period framing and the evidence it gives of early expansion.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"First Period","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition recorded as fair to poor; major structural repairs have been carried out, but considerable interior rehabilitation is still needed.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:04.623583-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/92/7899/63789992/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/90000209.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000209/b67020e660-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000209/b67020e660-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GeorgetownMA_HazenKimballAldrichHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GeorgetownMA_HazenKimballAldrichHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789992","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazen-Kimball-Aldrich_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5688227"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/hazen-kimball-aldrich-house-90000209/"}
