Concealed framing on the ground floor may yield information about late seventeenth century decoration (criterion D). Its paired transverse summer beams and rare raised cove stops with pips are notable, and its growth shows how single-cell houses were enlarged over generations.","narrative":"Dodge Street in Beverly is home to a house whose oldest part dates to about 1696-7. It began as a single-cell, two-and-a-half story dwelling, and later generations added the room left of the chimney, a rear lean-to later raised to full height, and a rear chimney. Today it is clapboarded, with an asymmetrical facade and two central chimneys. Inside, the second-floor chamber has paired summer beams resting on story posts with molded heads. Both beams and posts carry bevel chamfers ending in raised cove stops with pips, a rare stop type found mainly in Essex County. The ground-floor framing is boxed, and removing the boxing may reveal more decorated framing. The house is linked to Peter Woodbury Jr., a deacon active in town affairs, and his son Peter III, who marched to Concord on April 19, 1775. It is listed for its architectural integrity and its research value.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"First Period","criteria":["C","D"],"status_note":"Condition described as good; in residential use, as it was originally.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:05.170291-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/25/7898/63789825/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/90000201.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000201/2ef6e529d0-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/90000201/2ef6e529d0-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BeverlyMA_PeterWoodburyHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BeverlyMA_PeterWoodburyHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789825","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Woodbury_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14715812"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/essex-county/woodbury-peter-house-90000201/"}
